Firms and shareholders can determine how they intend to facilitate carbon reductions by directly reducing the business’s fossil fuel consumption or by including offsetting. Both measures require a company or business to account for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to determine the baseline and then develop carbon-reduction strategies working towards net-zero.
Quantifying emissions requires specialist expertise to determine the carbon equivalent emissions for the life cycle or pathway of the product or service. Once the baseline and carbon emissions for a specific year, product or services has been calculated, we can work with your company to implement carbon-saving strategy for each Scope of emissions:
- Scope 1: Emissions directly derived from company facilities and vehicles. This relates to emissions released at a firm level from fugitive emissions (GHG leaks), process emissions (GHG from on-site industrial processes) and mobile combustion (vehicles owned and controlled by the business).
- Scope 2: Emissions that are indirectly generated by business operations. This can include the consumption of purchased electricity and heat. This largely includes the electricity consumed by the end-user.
- Scope 3: All emissions that occur across the value chain, upstream and downstream, of the organisation/company. Upstream emissions include business travel, employee commuting, waste generation, purchased services and goods (transportation/distribution) and the production of fuels and energy (not related to Scopes 1 & 2). Downstream emissions include emissions associated with investments, leased assets and product usage. The product life cycle emissions (usage/transport/manufacturing) can often make up a large portion of the overall GHG production, and so must be carefully considered and calculated.
envirosense® calculates the greenhouse gas emissions of a business or company using the World’s most recognised and widely used tool for emissions accounting – the GHG Protocol.
Benefits of Carbon Accounting
- Clear identification of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions to direct emissions savings strategies
- Transparency of the carbon equivalent emissions of products and services offered by your company in relation to competitors or an appropriate benchmark
- Calculation of emissions to direct strategies to be accurately a net-zero product or service.
WE CAN HELP
envirosense® will support your company to collate the raw data required to calculate the emissions from Scope, Scope 2 and Scope 3 (as applicable). We will calculate, analyse and report findings in a Greenhouse Gas Emissions Report with an analysis of the findings. We will then work with your company to develop carbon reduction strategies to calculate expected reductions over an agreed period according to the company strategy for carbon reduction.
