• Scope 2: Emissions that are indirectly generated by business operations. This can include the consumption of purchased electricity and heat. This largely includes the electricity consumed by the end-user.
• Scope 3: All emissions that occur across the value chain, upstream and downstream, of the organisation/company. Upstream emissions include business travel, employee commuting, waste generation, purchased services and goods (transportation/distribution) and the production of fuels and energy (not related to Scopes 1 & 2). Downstream emissions include emissions associated with investments, leased assets and product usage. The product life cycle emissions (usage/transport/manufacturing) can often make up a large portion of the overall GHG production, and so must be carefully considered and calculated.
