Service Outline
EnviroSense have developed an Environmental Attribute Certificates (EAC) Registry to provide our clients with verified EAC’s for each monthly or quarterly batch of biogas/biomethane that has been produced and sold to downstream off-takers and traders. The EAC’s are required to demonstrate that the sustainability credentials of the biogas and biomethane coming into the certificate recipient’s possession are aligned with the Renewable Energy Directive II under an approved certification scheme. EnviroSense will further verify that the volumes and GHG values have been correctly calculated based on the provision of apportioning tool calculations, energy inputs and metering records. The EnviroSense registry is designed to track the movement of EAC’s coming into the recipients possession, and the retirement of these EAC’s to the downstream customers/products, to ensure that any risk of double counting the sustainability credentials of batches has been mitigated.
The registry also functions as a platform for the counterparty to identify the sustainability credentials of the inputs, and allocate to downstream recipients accordingly, whilst also being able to export the data into internal systems. Each monthly production volume of biogas or biomethane will be subject to verification in accordance with ISO 14064-3 by EnviroSense to validate the carbon intensity value, in order to substantiate claims made on the outgoing product. For each monthly production volume EnviroSense will review and assess the Operator’s greenhouse gas emissions as per the methodology outlined in the Renewable Energy Directive 2009/28/EC, amended through Directive (EU) EU/2018/2001 (RED II).
Types of EAC’s
- Electricity EAC’s: Certify that electricity comes from renewable or other zero-carbon sources, allowing companies to substantiate claims of renewable energy use or scope 2 reductions.
- Fuel EAC’s: Establish the environmental or sustainability performance (e.g. greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions) of a particular fuel.
- Commodity EAC’s: Establish the environmental or sustainability performance (e.g. GHG emissions intensity) of a commodity or material like timber, agricultural products, and metals.
Please reach out if you are interested in using our EAC Registry to provide verified EAC’s to downstream customers requiring additional assurances on the biomethane volumes that the have purchased.
